What does the author compare to a brick oven? Why?
What literary term describes the way the author uses "fire away"?
What does the character really mean?
What do you infer from Curly's response to the officers questions about the owls on page 8?
He compares the police officers car to an oven because it is so hot inside.
ReplyDeleteHe is saying, go ahead and tell me, and it is a analogy.
He saying there is nothing in them.
THE AUTHOR COMPARED A BRICK OVEN TO THE POLICE CAR BECAUSE IT WAS REALLY HOT INSIDE AND OFFICER DELINKO FELT LIKE HE WAS COOKING.
ReplyDeleteFIRE AWAY IS A IDIOM AND CURLY MEANS THAT OFFICER DELINKO CAN START ASKING HIM QUESTION.
I THINK THAT CURLY SAYS WHAT OWLS BECAUSE HE THINKS THAT IF THE OWLS ARE IN DANGER THEY WILL STOP THE PROJECT.
The author compared his patrol car to a "brick oven"
ReplyDeleteWhen Curly says "fire away" he means go ahead and ask the questions.
I think Curly says "what owls" because he doesn't care about them and just wants to get the job done.
Be careful of the way you use articles! Remember, if the word starts with a vowel, the correct article is "an", not "a".
ReplyDeleteKelton, you are correct. The author is comparing the conditions inside the car to those inside a brick oven...VERY HOT. Everyone did a nice job using the context to figure that one out.
Alex-Marie, good catch on the "idiom." I think everyone was either familiar with this phrase or was able to figure it out from the context.
Nycole, I think your analysis comes the closest. Curly is making a sort of joke. If there are no owls, then there is no problem with the Environmental Protection Agency, and they can get started on the job.
